Not my first encounter but my closest one to date
I mentioned to my brother Pat 10 at the time, that I've been hearing wood chopping for the past halfanhour, he said me too. You want to go watch the lumberjacks? Ok. It was Saturday morning in late april. I escorted my youngest brother then 6 with me holding hands as we headed into the bush, the chopping was around 1 mile southeast of the lodge. Pat as always led the way, Paul and I followed as close as we could behind. We were walking an 1880's logging trail about 1/4 mile in, Pat points to his right and exclaims "look a hairy tree" I got to the spot he was pointing at a few seconds later, looked and saw, just Pine trees and a stump, I said "Oh yeah", not wanting to look like I wasn't observant.
We then followed Pat through the Pines and down to the swamp at the end of the bay for 20mins. As Pat was leading us across the swamp bottom and the next hill, he pointed to his right and exclaimed "look a Moose" I looked but what I saw was not a Moose but a tall man to my best estimate 10-12ft. tall, walking back and around the black spruce that were to my right, headed towards Pat to cut him off from going any further up the trail.
That's when a minute seemed like a lifetime! I looked at Pat, he looked at the creature, they locked eyes, Pat looked at me, then Pat lurched forward, I stood firm shielding Paul from looking at the horrible creature, Pat screamed in silence, he began falling and crying then got up and ran past us... the creature stepped into the path 12 feet from Paul and I then huffed/growled loudly at us, I again shifted to shield Paul, Pat scrambled up the pine needled hillside, I spoke, "don't run" Pat got his footing and was tearing off in haste, I held Paul close to me, turned away from the stare of the creature and walked slowly away, towards where Pat was out distancing us, I then yelled "Pat wait", "don't run" to no avail Pat ran faster than a deer. At the top of the hill I looked behind to see if we were being followed. What I saw next surprised me and I was lost for words, it was 3 or more creatures galloping through the swamp at right angles to our exit headed west towards the main road.
Paul and I were never the target. We arrived at the Lodge and we called for Pat. After no reply to our screams I decided we would head back down the main road to find Pat. I thought if he wanted to get out of the bush asap he would cut through the parking lot to the main road. As we walked slowly and quietly the 1/4 mile to the y in the road we heard panting, crying, whimpering and my brother Pat calling out my name. It took a minute to make out what I was hearing, but then I put it together, Pat was being chased and thrown to the ground several times. I heard woofing and crying. I screamed as hard as I could, before what I thought Pat was being trampled. PAAAAAAAAT!
The sounds stopped. Two minutes later Pat stumbled out of the bush, leaves, dirt and mud were all over him. I ran towards him quickly dragging Paul behind me. His shirt was torn elbows were bleeding eyes were tearing hands were bloody and mud packed, his hat was gone and his shoes were a mess. What I heard next was not something I was prepared for. I asked what happened? He said a guy chased me, while he sobbed and blubbered... I could hardly make out his words. When you yelled he ran off. Then Pat told me where it happened, I understood this time between his whimpers and sobs. It was an old concrete foundation where the guy stepped out behind a Maple tree then started to chase him around.
Pat cried hard the rest of the way home, and kept thanking me. Paul and I felt bad, we almost cried too, no one wants a friend to suffer like this, especially your brother. I walked up the front steps with Pat still balling and beaten. My Mom came outside and let into me without remorse, she thought I had beaten the crap out of my little brother again. I had to protect my head and face from being slapped with those long skinny finger nails. Pat screamed at my Mom, "he didn't do it!".
Paul and I left immediately to the back 40 to get away from any threats probably more imagined than real from my parents. We sat out near cabin 6, the bat house and I now informed him of what I thought happened. He was glad he didn't see any monsters he called them. We left cabin 6 and went fishing on the dock beside the Lodge.
No sooner did we get settled into fishing my Mom yells out my name. Christ I'm dead I thought. I drop my rod on the dock and ask Paul to watch my bobber. Now while I'm scurrying up the steps I run into an O.P.P. Sargeant coming out of my house. My Mom says go with him! Pointing her finger at the Policeman. I follow on foot behind the Cop car to where Pat came out of the bush. Sargeant Sleep asked me "did you see the man that chased your brother?" I replied "it wasn't a man" He asked "what was it?" I said "I don't know what it was, but it wasn't a man" He asked "what did it look like?" I grabbed my t-shirt by the shoulders and lifted them up to my ears and said, "it looked like this" He told me to go sit beside the car.
As I sat there I saw a 172 Cessna plane fly overhead, just 50feet over the tree tops. There was chatter on the police radio and Sargeant Sleep answered the call. A second later a Lands and Forest car pulled up beside the Police car, both men got out and greeted each other. They spoke low so as I couldn't hear them. I don't remember the Lands and Forest guys name or rank if he even told me, but he waved me over and asked me twenty questions. I answered them as best I could, not knowing where he was going or what he wanted. I was then asked to go sit down next to Mr. Sleep's car.
The two Officer's talked for 15 minutes then the L&F Officer returned his wave to me. I followed his gesture back to his car. He opened a notebook and showed me a pencil drawing of a creature, "did it look like this?", he asked. I exclaimed "yeah that's him, that's the guy". Again he repeated OK go sit by the car.
Truth was in 1968, "children should to be seen, not heard".
It was after the plane stopped circling and the L&F guy took off that Mr. Sleep provided me with the following facts he had heard from my brother less than an hour ago. He said my brother's description was a man in a blue mechanic's suit with a dark colored helmet and large rubber boots was chasing him. Therefore they were looking into a prison escapee that may have tried to take your brother hostage. I suggested we go in there where my brother was chased and look for footprints, because it's wet and all muddy in there now. He told me "stay right here!" why I asked? He said "we're being watched!" I still didn't catch the drift, I repeated I'll go in and just take a look around, he grabbed my arm and said look up behind my left shoulder, "is that what you saw?" I peered into the Maple trees and I saw standing there in plain site 3 or 4 large beings that I'm sure at the time looked just like Neanderthals. Ok! I said, we should go! It was the scariest 1/4 mile walk back I've ever known.
We then followed Pat through the Pines and down to the swamp at the end of the bay for 20mins. Are Sasquatch Nocturnal?
The short answer is, who knows! The long answer is a Sasquatch is whatever he wants to be, unlike you or I they have freedom of choice. Sasquatch are active at any time day or night, they don't seem to have a schedule. But if you study the large predators of the world it seems they all prefer a full belly before they sleep. No animal wants to sleep on an empty stomach.
It may be what they hunt will define their activity. If deer are on the menu they will be on a night feeding clock. If moose are their dinner they will be up at the crack of dawn. Now take fish for instance to catch those you must see them so that's a daytime activity. I know people have walked up on them while the Sasquatch is sleeping thats not news. Some have witnessed them snoring beside a game trail at 7am., others have seen them snoozing mid afternoon.
Humans for the most part are diurnal and sometimes we like to think of the Sasquatch as one part of us. But honestly to be a predator in the woods you must be flexible and waste as little energy to feed yourself as possible. Watch a few Survivor Man episodes you'll get the idea.
I was once told that the Sasquatch was diurnal in most activities by a very good if not great researcher, who I have faith in. His second comment made perfect sense to me also. "They will use the dark of night to investigate human surroundings that are occupied" I agree with this statement fully, as most of my own encounters which number more than 25 would confirm this statement. The only time I had encounters at night, was when I was the instigator, they just returned my calls and knocks. But on the other hand I can't say for sure if they were awake and moving around before I introduced myself.

Where do we go from here?
From what I know and from interacting with other researchers over the years, we know that Sasquatches are no mystery but their behavior is relatively unknown, so we took that trip together to find out about ourselves and how a Sasquatch may interact in this world too.(previous post)
Now it's true sometimes you can get a knock back from whacking the odd tree now and then and a follow up whoop too, while trekking known Sasquatch territory. When we want a verbal vocalization it's much more difficult but 10 times more rewarding. I have received 3 responses witnessed by other group members where the Sasquatch speaks back in it's own language. To me it sounds as though they are introducing themselves and listening for your response. I could have this backwards though. In each instance I perceived these to be non threatening. Sounding more like they were asking a question than making a statement.
Each of the above responses were from using rocks on larger boulders, a culvert under a roadway or smacking them together in my hands. I've heard two others speaking to themselves unknown to them that myself and younger brother were within 20 yards and were watching them and listening to them talk. I'll never forget my younger brother's comment, he stopped walking and said, "those guys are talking Chinese" as I looked more closely I knew, "those guys" weren't human, they were close but not human.
This brings us one more way to get an indication of how to get a Sasquatch to speak back to you. What I'm indicating is possible but not probable. So try all these ideas and find which one's might work in your area.
Another is quietly slip into an area you have discovered some type of Sasquatch existence, whether it's a sighting report or structures you've found. Buy a Barred Owl call and go on youtube to find out how to make a reliable Barred Owl call. Practice as you drive to work if need be. This Owl the Barred is feared by all living creatures in the woods except man. It is my assumption that Sasquatch will join in when you let go, pause a minute or two between calls.
Myself and another researcher heard a real Barred Owl and a fake Wolf call back go on for what seemed to be an hour and a half. The area we heard the calls coming from was a couple hundred yards off the abandoned road we were hiking and it was 3am, a guy could loose an eye the bush was so thick.
Hiking at night is good, but don't use a light. If you have to, briefly use a small light with a red filter on it to find your directions or something you've misplaced. But don't walk with a light on all night, try to limit yourself to moonlit nights instead.

Active Interaction?
Ok this might sound peculiar if you've never been alone for a month or more in the woods but bear with me, this is important. Consider this... you are completely alone in the woods for the past month, no contact with anyone and have not heard any human activity at all, nothing notta zilch. Ok are you there yet? Now you are unarmed except for a small hatchet you cut firewood with and a pocket knife to open your cans. This morning you hear people talking, giggling and sounds of paddles on the side of canoes you suppose they are on the lake paddling across to the far side. Do you go out of your way to interact with these strangers and give away your location or do you sit quiet hoping they don't see your camp? Exactly. You hide in your tent and peer out hoping they don't make out your location. You even scrounge up your binoculars and make certain they're leaving the area.
Another week goes by with no other interruptions, peace and quiet, alone at last. This morning you're awoken by screams, cursing and yelling along with forceful hits against some unknown objects, it sounds like an all out war. This goes on for 10 minutes without a single break in the action. What are you going to do? Hide in the tent or find out if this situation could disrupt into a threat to your safety? Exactly. You are on your way to the location of the violence to decide for yourself if any future threats to you could develop. Enough said.
Is that human nature or is it animal survival? I believe it's both and as such intelligent animals will take precautions to lower their risk of injury or death. Call it the Selfish Gene, if you want? I believe humans and sasquatch are both intelligent beings and both will risk being seen or heard to find a solution to the threat whether real or imagined. What does this mean? You ask.
Well the point I'm trying to make is this...Sure you may get a knock or a whoop from a Sasquatch that's nearby and is watching or listening to you walking through the woods but if you want him to come to you from miles away you will have to be a threat to his safety, or challenge his territory in some way. I'm talking on the same lines as what a big game hunter does with Bear, Elk and Moose calls that challenge his rivals in mating season. I've seen rutting Moose plow through thick undergrowth at 20mph trying to rid their area of would be suitors. It works a good percent of the time, so to with Elk and Bears. Why not try it with the Sasquatch?
